The purpose of this blog is twofold: to explore how the gospel applies to our lives – whether Christian or not – and to try and engage Christians in conversing with the culture around us. I’m an amateur at both, but hoping that the ideas and thoughts shared are nonetheless helpful or at least enough to awaken some discourse among young Christians. While I often blog with Christians in mind, I hope my posts are roughly accessible – or at least informative – for those who wouldn’t take that label.
Why have I called it thoughts on the gospel and life? Increasingly as I learn from and converse with Christians, I am aware of the way that younger generations have reduced the gospel meaning and application to its simplest form* . But the gospel is broader: the Good News about Jesus Christ applies and works itself out in all of our lives and society. Nothing in the world is unaffected by the Gospel. There is truth in the gospel for every situation, thought, and opinion that we hold. However, critical thinking is vital for picking apart the messages we see all around us in an increasingly secular culture.Needless to say, these posts are my own working out of these truths, but hopefully it starts something.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel — not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
Galatians 1:6-7
*by this I mean the good news that because we cannot be perfect (we are sinful), and are therefore far from God, He has shown His love for us by taking on humanity fully while remaining fully God (Jesus) to live the perfect and good life that we cannot and to die for us in our place (because the consequence of sin is death), representing humanity. By believing in Jesus’ work for us, God reconciles us to Himself and we become adopted into His family, with Him as our Father. This is the crux of the gospel, but it is so much more, and how it applies to our lives is fuller than understanding this short explanation.
